337 Crispy Tofu in Sweet Black Bean Sauce

INGREDIENTS (2-4 servings)

  • 1-2 packages of firm tofu, cut into 3” cubes
  • 1/3 cup of red Bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/3 cup of Chinese celery, chopped
  • A few chili peppers, diced
  • 2-3 eggs, beaten
  • 1-2 Tbsp of flour
  • 1.5 Tbsp of black bean sauce
  • A pinch of sugar
  • A pinch of cornstarch or corn flour
  • A dash of water
  • A dash of cooking oil
  • 2-3 cups of frying oil

DIRECTIONS

Step 1
In a small bowl, mix together the black bean sauce, sugar, cornstarch and water. Set aside. These are your seasonings.
Step 2
Sift the flour into the beaten eggs and whisk together.
Step 3
Drop the tofu cubes into the egg mixture and coat all pieces evenly.
Step 4
In a deep pot, heat the frying oil. When the oil is hot, add the tofu coated in egg and fry until it turns a golden-brown. Remove the tofu from the oil and arrange flat on a serving dish.
Step 5
Heat oil in a pan and stir fry the red Bell pepper, Chinese celery, and chili peppers. Then add the seasonings from Step 1. Stir everything together then pour the sauce evenly over the fried tofu and serve.
